Our gymnastics classes are a great opportunity for boys and girls of various ages to learn skills on the floor, balance beams, bars, trampoline, and vaults.  Our age appropriate programs are lead by our trained and experienced staff to make sure your child learns the foundational skills needed to join our competitive team while having lots of fun!

Parent & Tot (ages 18mo - 2yr) with parent participation

This is a class for parents to help their children develop motor skills and basic coordination, as well as to introduce their youngster to physical activity. Children will learn body positions, names, and basic gymnastics skills such as running, jumping, climbing, stretching, rolling, balancing, hanging and other fun activities. This is a great class for parents to spend one on one quality time with their youngster while he/she learns and has a ton of fun!

Totsy Turvy (ages 3-4)

In this class, children will learn the basic skills of gymnastics, gymnastics terms, as well as experience all the fun you can have on each of the gymnastics apparatus. This class blends physical activity with daily living skills such as listening & following directions. Unlike Parent & Tot, in this class, children are given the experience of working and learning without a parent. In learning without mom or dad, children gain a great deal of self confidence and a tremendous sense of self pride and accomplishment.

Phenom Flippers (ages 5-6)

In this class children will explore more challenging gymnastics skills while working on the floor, vaulting table, uneven bars, and balance beams. The basic skills they will learn include forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, round offs, handstands, limbers and jumps on floor.  As they advance, students will learn flip flops, back tucks, back walkovers, leaps, and turns. On the vaulting table they will learn to run fast, jump high, squat ons and handstands.

Hot shots (Invitation only)

Advanced gymnasts will train front handsprings on soft resi mats, and front flips. On bars, children will learn pull overs, casting, cartwheel, handstand, swing on the bars. And on the balance beams, they will learn to walk, jump, roll, cartwheel and hold challenging balancing positions. This class not only incorporates the basic and advanced skills of gymnastics but develops muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, balance and control.  This class is only for girls, and by invitation only.

Tumbling

Our tumbling classes are a great way to introduce your boy or girl to the sport of gymnastics, focusing our time on the floor, trampoline, and foam-block pits.  These age appropriate classes help your child build the skills they need for dance teams, cheer teams, or to join our gymnastics team classes, while having a great time and making new friends!

Beginner Tumbling (ages 5+)

This is a class for boys and girls interested in learning and refining the flip flop (back handspring) skill. The main focus of this class is learning basic drills, progressions, & strengthening exercise to help attain and improve the flip flop. The flip flop is a prerequisite for many cheer squads.

Intermediate Tumbling (ages 5+)

In this class, boys and girls will learn the basic tumbling skills. Skills that will be practiced include forward and backward rolls, handstands, front and back limbers, cartwheels, drills and lead up skills for back handsprings (flip flop). Students will also work on improving flexibility and strength needed for attaining those goal skills.

Advanced Tumbling (ages 7+)

This is an advanced class for boys and girls interested in learning more difficult tumbling passes, as well as perfecting current tumbling skills. Students will focus on achieving their personal goals, as well as train multiple backhandsrings, back layouts, front tucks through to multiple back handsprings, backward fulls and double fulls. Increasing flexibility and strength will also be a focus during this class which will allow the student to more quickly learn, and more safely perform their skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Phenom different from other local programs?

At Phenom, not only does our qualified staff have decades of experience in teaching children ages 2-18, but EVERY student at Phenom Gymnastics is important and special to us. We are committed to helping every student achieve his/her personal goals and help him/her to be their very best in a caring, supportive and positive environment.

How does tuition work?

Families will fill out the registration form in order to enroll their student/s into class. Each month, on the 1st of the month, we will charge your credit card on file for the tuition amount of your class for the upcoming month. IE Jan. tuition is charged Jan. 1st. Tuition is based on 4 weeks of class per month, 12 months a year. Because some months have 5 weeks in them, there may be times we cancel class and do not offer a make up. If you want to unenroll, we require 30 day written notice by filling out our drop slip. Those may be obtained at our front office or via email.

How do you stand by your claim that "Phenom is the Best"?

We are confident that we offer the highest quality gymnastics and tumbling instruction in the Chicago land area. If, during your first two classes at Phenom, you are not satisfied for any reason, we will cheerfully refund 100% of your tuition.

Why are your classes divided by ages?

Years of study and research has shown that children develop differently, but there are certain milestones that are specific to each year of growth and development. Phenom Gymnastics prides itself on providing a developmentally specific program based on the ages of our participants. Attempts to "fast track" preschoolers have negative implications to your child, the other members of the class and the instructors. Our goal is to provide an environment that is fun, supportive, and most importantly, encourages a love of learning.

What should my Gymnast wear?

Girls should wear a leotard. Boys can wear a t-shirt and shorts. Bare feet are preferred, as socks make children's feet slippery and may hinder the ability to climb, run, and jump safely.  Long hair should be pulled up out of her face with hairband (rubber band).  All jewelry should be taken off before class.

What should my Tumbler wear?

Girls may wear leotards, or shorts and a t-shirt that can be tucked in to her shorts. Cheer shoes may be worn or bare feet. Leotards may be purchased at our pro shop.  Long hair should be pulled up out of her face with a hairband (rubber band).  All jewelry should be taken off before class.

What if I miss a class?

It is always best to attend your regularly scheduled class. When you know you will be unable to attend your class, please call or email our office to let us know. Just like college, your tuition pays for a class spot, REGARDLESS OF ATTENDANCE. However, as a courtesy, Phenom Gymnastics offers a make-up open gym.  You will be regularly emailed as to when this specific make up open gym will take place.  Student must be enrolled in class at the time of the make up open gym in order to partipate.

Can I drop my child off for class?

At Phenom Gymnastics, we make a concerted effort to prevent unauthorized persons from entering the premises. Phenom Gymnastics is not equipped to supervise children before or after classes. Parents of children who are unable to safely supervise themselves are to stay ON SITE during the child's class and be at the appropriate pick up area when the class ends. Thank you to help facilitate the safety of all children in our care.

What is the $80 annual family registration fee for?

The annual registration fee is in place to encourage consistency in attendance throughout the year. The benefits of any educational program comes from long term involvement and our choice to charge an annual registration fee rather than slightly increasing tuition over the year is to encourage consistency in attendance. It may help to remind readers that some industries such as martial arts and health clubs opt for yearly contracts while others such as academic schools and some dance schools opt for semester payments. Our 'soft' approach still allows in/out flexibility for those families who need it for one reason or another.

What if I need to switch to a different day/time/class?

Simply stop by our front office to fill out a drop/change class slip.
